Frank T. Mihalcik was an Indiana funeral director. For several years, he was owner and director of the Bence-Mihalcik Funeral Home in Indiana PA.
Mihalcik was born on July 24, 1932. He was the youngest of Joseph and Mary Hibel Mihalcik’s four sons. Following his mother’s death in 1942, he was raised by Dr. George and Mrs. Luretta Hanna on Main Street in Homer City, PA. As a boy, he was fascinated by funeral processions moving through town and enjoyed recreating them with his toys.
After graduating from high school in 1950, he began working at the Hallow Funeral Home in Homer City. He attended Indiana State Teacher’s college for two years. In 1959, he graduated from the Pittsburgh School of Mortuary Science. Shortly afterwards, he began his career as a funeral director in Pittsburgh, Homer City, and Indiana. For several years, he served as supervisor of the Bell Funeral Home in Indiana.
In 1972, he established the Mihalcik Funeral Home, Inc., at 975 Philadelphia Street. Mihalcik was deeply committed to the Indiana community, participating in many civic and service projects. He was affiliated with a range of local business organizations. In 1992, he merged his business with the Bence Funeral Home of Clymer. Throughout his career as a funeral director, Mihalcik offered compassion and attentiveness to families coping with the death of a loved one. He died on May 1, 2009. He was survived by his wife, Marian.
